About 2,000 permanent residents call Edwards County home. With more than 100 subdivisions, the part-time population grows significantly—especially during hunting season.

How we respond

Our primary service area covers roughly 2,100 square miles. We also respond in Real County when we are closer than Frio Canyon EMS or EMS of Nueces Canyon, and we maintain mutual-aid agreements with neighboring counties.

Our team provides standby coverage at football games, rodeos, bull ridings, and running events, and responds when requested to structure fires and large grass fires.

“The goal remains the same: provide the best emergency medical care possible to every resident and visitor.”

A virtually volunteer service

Nine part-time Texas-certified medics and six part-time drivers receive modest standby and per-run fees rather than hourly wages. In practical terms, this is a volunteer-powered service.

Operations are supported by county funds, patient billing, donations, and STRAC grants. Major equipment purchases depend on grants and fundraising.
